The Dragon Cafe, the UK's first Mental Health Cafe, is seeking innovative city professionals to co-develop “the Dragon Café in the City”, an initiative to change the culture of mental health in the workplace.
Mental Fight Club’s “Dragon Café”, based in Southwark, is the UK’s first Mental Health Café. It is a space both safe and inspiring which helps service users take the journey through mental illness, onwards into recovery and new-found sustainable modes of mental wellbeing. It also stands as a crucible for new thinking around mental health.
Through its direct experience at the Dragon Café of mental illness, recovery and wellbeing, Mental Fight Club has created a value proposition for its 7,000 patrons (including service users and refusers, providers, commissioners and the wider community) that can be shared to raise awareness, challenge stigma and supplement current mental health services and support mental wellbeing in the workplace.
Mental health in the workplace is, despite a growing movement to address its importance, unfortunately stigmatised and considered by many to be one of life’s taboos. Its impact on businesses and employees is substantial.
Following extremely positive discussions with the City Mental Health Alliance (CMHA - www.citymentalhealthalliance.org) and other City organisations including the Institute of Directors and PwC, we are entering a discovery phase for “The Dragon Café in the City”, a potential new model of mental health support for City professionals.
We are seeking the help of a Beyond Me team with experience of and/or an interest in tackling the growing issue of mental health in the workplace to co-develop this initiative with us and provide a safe space for city professionals to connect around mental health that challenges the culture of mental health in the workplace.
