Enterprise Bootcamp equips young people with skills, support and networks to start up their own enterprise. It empowers them to succeed and breaks down barriers holding them back.
Bootstrap’s core business is providing workspace to a diverse mix of tenants, supporting them to start up and grow. From bakers and brewers in the Bootyard to film studios and charities across the 3 buildings we operate in; Bootstrap boasts an eclectic mix of tenants here on Ashwin Street, Dalston. Bootstrap was established in 1978 to support people to set-up their own businesses and improve employability skills. Bootstrap’s work in 2016 still echoes these original aims through our Enterprise Bootcamp programme
WHAT IS ENTERPRISE BOOTCAMP?
790,000 people aged 16-24 were Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) in the third quarter of 2017, 11.1% of all people in this age group according a House of Commons Briefing paper dated the 28th December 2017.
Enterprise Bootcamp is a pioneering programme to equip young entrepreneurs with the tools to startup and progress in their careers. It provides young people with a 10 week accredited enterprise programme. It is designed to be approachable in a language that focuses on developing confidence and the technical suite of skills required to start up a business. The programme has been developed by Bootstrap & Peabody over a number of years, with master classes that cover the core elements of a ‘business plan’ and are accredited with an OCN Level 2 business qualification.
We help participants in 5 key ways:
We help young people develop the skills, competency and confidence through accredited enterprise training.
We offer practical experience through work-based learning in collaboration with local tenant mentors
We facilitate connections through a series of connector events over the course of the programme.
We match young people with experienced entrepreneurs from the Bootstrap community in weekly 1-2-1 mentoring sessions.
We five participants space to grow by providing them with their own dedicated desk space
The outputs of the programme speak for themselves in the summer 2017 cohort 75% of participants secured jobs in the field or engaged in relevant work experience or volunteering, while 72% have started/are still working on their venture. Enterprise Bootcamp is unique in the way it leverages the workspace and its tenants to break down the barriers to entry for NEETS by allowing access to funding, confidence, skills and a network.
We are currently at capacity in our current location and would be looking for a BeyondMe team to help scale and replicate the programme at workspaces across London and the UK!
We envisage a BeyondMe team working on a scaling plan that we can then use to go out to other workspaces. Replicating Enterprise Bootcamp across mutliple spaces has the potential to impact a huge amount of Young People so do join us!
