The Philosophy Foundation raises aspirations and attainment through doing philosophy in schools, communities and the workplace. The majority of schools we work with are in Lewisham, which is among the worst four boroughs for educational outcomes: 42% of 19 year olds do not have A levels or the equivalent. More than half our work in schools is in the 8 worst-performing boroughs in London. But we want to do more. Help us to expand our work in business, to support our work with the disadvantaged.
WHAT WE DO
Founded in 2007, we are an award-winning charity whose aim is to bring philosophy to the wider community and particularly into schools in deprived areas. Our lessons use philosophy to improve children’s learning.
The feedback we get from teachers and the participants on our programmes is clear: philosophy can make a huge difference in terms of listening skills, critical thinking, problem solving and the ability to articulate oneself. These are all skills which are vitally urgent in the 21st Century.
Over the past few years we have tried to diversify our income streams, but due to a lack of internal capacity we haven’t been able to focus on this work. Working with BeyondMe would allow us to utilise the skills and knowledge of the business community. We are ready to grow our business training offer - we have developed and trialled a training suite, completed market research and analysis, and have a completed business plan to take this offer to the corporate sector.
By working with us at this time you will take our charity to the next level, helping us to bring much needed support to disadvantaged areas.
Our Social Impact Reports prove that the positive repercussions of our work go far beyond the workshops themselves. We know we are an innovator in the education space, with our beneficiaries demonstrating improvement in key skills. We feel confident that we can demonstrate the same wide-reaching effects in the corporate space. As such, we believe we can influence ethical business practice on a national level, impacting the way large, influential private sector organisations operate.
Over the course of the year we want to have started running our courses in critical and creative thinking, and facilitating meetings through outstanding questioning. We also want the courses to be fully developed through further feedback and work in the corporate sector.
We are looking for a team which can help us fully develop our training offer, liaising primarily with the co-CEO leading this project, as well as other core team members and help us take it to market through their network and connections, or through help with marketing and communications.
We would also be interested in support with measuring our impact in this new sector, and are open to offers of support we have not yet thought of.
